A 15-year veteran state trooper said a fatal crash Sunday in Hall County was the worst he’s ever seen.

Virginia Hiscock, 66, and William Hiscock, 55, died in the five-car pileup on I-985 near Exit 16, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Six other people were released from the hospital Monday.

Investigators said the wreck was caused by other cars slowing down to avoid a crash ahead.

Trooper Sgt. Auston Allen told the news station the chaotic scene left debris scattered along the freeway. He said crash scene photos were too graphic to share.

“It literally looked like a bomb had exploded,” Allen said.

Flowery Branch resident Amalia Lara said she and her three cousins walked away from the crash with only cuts and bruises.

“We’re definitely shaken up about it,” Lara said.

Investigators have not determined who is at fault and charges have not been filed.
