Atlanta police say a fatal jumper was the cause of a massive traffic jam on I-85 north at Peachtree Street that blocked three lanes during rush hour Friday evening.

Traffic backed up for miles, but by 7:45 p.m. police had cleared the lanes.

A man apparently jumped off a bridge, according to investigator Laura Salm with the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office. He was not carrying identification, she said Friday night, and investigators were trying to identify him.

Officials with Atlanta Fire and Rescue said Central EMS responded to the incident and requested the Medical Examiner to respond to the scene.
