Fans flock to get new Apple iPad

More than 200 people lined up four hors before opening to get the new Apple iPad at Lenox Mall in Buckhead section of Atlanta on Saturday, April 3, 2010.

Apple Store employees excited the crowd moments before the store opened to sell the new iPad at the Apple Store in Lenox Square. More than 200 people lined up, some arriving as early as 5 a.m., to purchase Apple's latest technological craze.

The iPad went on sale at 9 a.m. at the Apple Store in Lenox Square. It is about the size of a notebook and has thousands of applications (apps) for just about anything you can imagine, and some you can't.

Apple Store employee Jeremy Gill greets the first customer of the day, Chris Pairan, who arrived at the mall before the 9 a.m. opening to get a spot at the front of the line.

Apple store employee Sarah Brown had plenty of iPads ready to hand out.

Chris Foster was motivated to get to the Apple Store by 5:45 a.m. to get get a spot near the front of the line. "We're going on vacation right after this, so my wife wasn't going to be happy if this took until noon."

Apple Store employee Jeremy Gill explains some of the features of the iPad with Owen Mathews. Mathews, who had already bought his iPad, was getting some pointers before leaving the store.

Betty Gibbs waits for the Apple Store in Lenox Square to open so she can buy an iPad. Fearing a shortage of the highly anticipated devices, Gibbs arrived at 5:30 a.m. to claim a spot near the front of the line. "I panicked and wanted to makes sure I got one" Gibbs said moments before the store opened at 9 a.m.
