Three members of a Stone Mountain family were killed in a wreck in New Jersey as they returned home from a holiday trip to visit relatives.

An 18-year-old family member survived.

Police are investigating what caused a tractor-trailer to hit the back of a Toyota Camry around 10 a.m. Thursday on the New Jersey Turnpike near Mount Laurel.

The Camry’s driver, 51-year-old Ainsworth Mallett, his 49-year-old wife, Jacqueline Mallett, and their 12-year-old son, Drew Mallett, were all pronounced dead at the scene. A dog in the Toyota was also killed, according to authorities.

The couple’s 18-year-old daughter, Nicole Mallett, suffered minor injuries.

Ainsworth Mallett operated the Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill on Rockbridge Road. On Friday, well-wishers had erected a small makeshift memorial of flowers outside the front door of the bakery.

Jacqueline Mallett was an administrative assistant in the counseling office at Stephenson Middle School.

Friends told Channel 2 Action News that the family is originally from Jamaica and was returning to the Atlanta area after visiting family in Connecticut.

“We are really going to miss them. They will be dearly missed,” family friend Aubrey Childs told Channel 2.

There is no word yet on funeral arrangements.
