The family of a Conyers woman who died in an out-of-state car crash is trying to raise money to bring her body home.

Melba Stultz, 64, was killed Friday night in St. Petersburg, Fla., police spokesman Rick Shaw told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The grandmother of five had a "heart of gold," family members posted on a GoFundMe page.

The Stultz family is raising money to bring her body home and have a funeral.

“Any extra funding will go to the treasures of her life, her five grandchildren, who she loved more than life itself,” Tim Shultz posted in the campaign. “If you can't donate, we ask for your prayers for her soul, her family, and friends.”

Jeffery Rowser posted on Facebook that Stultz was a founding charter band parent who supported the Salem High School band for 15 years.

A van driven by 51-year-old Anthony Vargas hit the passenger side of Stultz’s car as she turned left onto I-275, Shaw said.

Stultz was pronounced dead at a local hospital, while Vargas was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Shaw said.

Charges against Vargas had not been filed as of Monday because a traffic homicide investigation is ongoing, Shaw said.
