Commencement for the 3,035 seniors of the Cherokee County Class of 2020 will proceed as planned in late July, but involving only graduates and staff who have roles in the event.

The host venue, First Baptist Church of Woodstock, is not large enough to ensure social distancing in light of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, schools Superintendent Brian V. Hightower said in a message to the community.

"I know many family members and friends have looked forward to joining in this celebration," Hightower said. "While you will not be able to attend in person, you will be able to watch the live stream of the event on the website at www.fbcw.org, which also will be recorded."

Masks will be encouraged but not required. Principals will be sending instructions to graduates; there will be no graduation practice. Information: https://bit.ly/2NToYk3
