A Clayton County woman is still beset by turmoil over her husband dying while saving their children from a house fire.

She and her five children also are homeless after the fire in Forest Park in February, Channel 2 Action News reported.

But Tyeisha Gamble is getting some good fortune now, thanks to the Clayton County District Attorney’s office.

District Attorney Tracy Graham Lawson has given a $1,700 check to Tyeisha Gamble to help the family find housing, Channel 2 reported.

“Right now that's what we need most,” Gamble said.

Brandon Gamble died in the fire on Burks Road.

John Tumlin, a neighbor, said at the time he saw Brandon Gamble “handing the kids out the window.”

“I knew my husband was in the inside,” Tyeisha Gamble said, “and I still have nightmares about that night.”

However, Lawson is taking donations from people in a pretrial diversion program and giving it to Gamble and her family, who are now living in hotels or with family.

The money is donated to satisfy a community service requirement, Lawson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Participants usually do between 80 and 120 hours of community service. They get one credit for every $5 they donate.

Lawson said she chooses the charities and diversion participants can work their hours. Past donations have gone toward individuals raising grandchildren, veterans and schools.

It’s a way of “paying back the community for the trouble they've caused,” Lawson said.
