The next meeting of the Concerned Citizens for Cityhood of South DeKalb is 6 p.m. Monday at Scott Candler Library, 1917 Candler Road, Decatur.

Kathryn Rice of Building Quality Communities said citizens have four options: maintain status quo, annex into a nearby city, annex into Atlanta, or form a small city.

To do nothing could result in increased taxes, Rice explained. “There’s a strong likelihood that other cities will incorporate,” she said. “If they do, the impact of that revenue leaving the county will mean that the county will have to raise taxes in order to accommodate the services that they desire to provide.”

Incorporation provides protection of city boundaries, Rice added.
