Emory University selected a current administrator to serve as the next provost, officials announced Friday.

Claire Sterk, a senior vice provost for academic affairs, will take over the job effective Feb. 1.

Sterk, an acclaimed public health researcher, was selected following a national search. She replaces Earl Lewis, who left the college to become president of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
