Ellenwood neighborhood trashed by storm

Early morning storms damaged parts of Ellenwood, Ga., including the Katherine Village neighborhood, and residents try to clean up.

Dwight Jones looks under a piece of somebody else's roof that landed in his back yard in Katherine Village. He said his grill was under there. His house suffered some damage, but was in better shape than some of his neighbors.

Huge blue tarps flapped in the breeze on the roofs of houses Monday morning as Clayton inmates filled several dump trucks parked along the streets in Ellenwood. Several private contractors were also in the neighborhood, already starting repairs on some of the damaged homes.

The cleanup from weekend storms began in earnest Monday morning in an Ellenwood neighborhood slammed hard by a tornado. Dozens of Clayton County prison inmates were brought to the Stagecoach Village subdivision to help with the cleanup effort.
