An 8-year-old student in Buckhead was hit on the head by a falling tree limb Thursday afternoon.
The second grader at Morris Brandon Elementary School was playing near the jungle gym during recess. A limb fell from a tree, hitting him on the head, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Students were taken inside for the rest of the day and will not be allowed to play on the playground for the time being, according to Channel 2.
“We are going to access all of the trees here at Brandon Elementary to make sure that they are safe,” Stephen Alford, Atlanta Public Schools spokesman, told Channel 2. “Once they are clear, we will have students back outside, but right now we want to make sure it’s a safe space.”
In a letter sent to parents, the school wrote it is working with the City of Atlanta to search “for any signs of weak limbs or other possible hazards.”
The boy is recovering at Children’s Heathcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, according to Channel 2.
