An elderly man escaped serious injury Monday morning when he jumped from a window on the second floor of his burning home near McDonough.

The fire was reported at 4:42 a.m. at a house in the 2000 block of Snapping Shoals Road, Henry County fire spokeswoman Sabrina Puckett said.

A woman inside the house was able to get out uninjured, but her uncle, who is about 70 years old, had to jump from a window on the second floor of the house, Puckett said.

The man was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, Puckett said. No other injuries were reported.

Puckett said it took firefighters nearly 90 minutes to bring the fire under control. The house was well off the road, forcing crews to lay a long line of fire hose to the nearest hydrant, she said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
