A man died in a wreck that closed all lanes of I-85 for nearly two hours early Sunday morning in DeKalb County, police said.

Shamell Maleek J. Rushmore was ejected from his 2001 Acura Integra during a crash involving a 2016 Jeep Patriot near the Pleasantdale Road exit, Lt. Lonzy Robertson said. Rushmore’s passenger, Antonio Mahnke, was also ejected and seriously injured.

“Detectives believe the driver of the Acura either stalled or spun out in the HOV lane,” Robertson said.

The driver of the jeep, Torry Griffin, and passenger Salene Griffin were in serious, but stable condition Monday, according to police.

No charges have been filed pending a toxicology report on Rushmore, Robertson said.

As police were cleaning up debris and trying to get the people involved in an ambulance, a second crash happened, according to Channel 2 Action News. That crash was likely caused by drivers watching the aftermath of the initial crash.

No additional details were immediately available.
