Keep East Point Beautiful, a local group connected to Keep Georgia Beautiful, has been awarded a $2,000 grant to plant trees in the city. The project is intended for both aesthetic and environmentally beneficial purposes.

The local organization will work with many groups to plant at least three small orchards in a community effort.

Several sites considered for planting include the East Point Historical Society; River Park across from Parklane Elementary School; and the P.A.T.C.H. Community Garden located in the Meadowlark Estate Neighborhood.

The trees will benefit East Point citizens in another way, said Frances Kennedy, executive director for KEPB.

“Fruit trees are proven long-term investments that require little care once establised. These orchards will provide citizens with locally grown fresh fruit, reduce our carbon footprint, and engage the community with hands-on stewardship of our local parks and green spaces,” she said.
