The city of East Point announced the flushing of its fire hydrants this week. The flushing is a mandatory maintenance requirement of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Georgia EPA Division. During the process, harmless sedimentation can be stirred in the distribution system which can result in tap water becoming discolored in areas where hydrants are flushed. Residents may see work crews allowing hydrant water to run into the street and are advised to run their faucets for three to four minutes to allow any discoloration to clear. During the flushing water pressure may be low.
