The City of East Point fire department recently added three new trucks to its fleet.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awarded the city’s fire department with $782,500 to purchase the apparatus, with a required match of ten percent.

The city said the trucks, produced and delivered by Sutphen Corp., were custom-designed according to the fire department’s specifications:

  • air-light unit, $211,920. Among other features, it allows oxygen bottles to be refilled on scene instead of having to return to the station to do so.
  • rescue unit, $127,236. The city said the vehicle allows for specialized response in emergency situations, including all-weather tactical rescues.
  • The purchases came to $781,999; the city said the remaining $501 will be used to install required heat resistant decals and inventory plates.
