A Cobb County man who directs a youth basketball league has been linked to a corruption investigation involving the Parks and Recreation department for the city of Columbus, Ga.

William Fox, director of basketball operations for East Marietta Basketball, was booked into the Muscogee County jail Monday on a charge of conspiracy to defraud a political subdivision. He has since been released on $11,000 bond.

Police believe that Fox conspired with Columbus parks and recreation director Tony Adams and recreation specialist Herman Porter to divert more than $200,000 meant for the city of Columbus into a private account.

Adams and Porter were arrested last month  on charges related to the conspiracy and are out of jail on bond.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported Tuesday that Fox managed the Nike sponsorship for an elite travel basketball team that the city of Columbus organized and bankrolled. He and wife Joyce are also directors of Youth Basketball of America-Georgia, which has held three or more tournaments a year in city facilities, the newspaper reported.
