The Dunwoody Police Department has signed on as a participating agency in the LEO Near Miss program that was initially funded by the Community Oriented Policing Services office at the Department of Justice for the Police Foundation.

This program is a voluntary, non-disciplinary reporting system that allows law enforcement personnel to read about and anonymously share close calls, or near misses, which provide lessons that can protect others from similar incidents. Modeled after the International Association of Fire Chief’s reporting program, the goal of the LEO Near Miss initiative is to share stories from law enforcement agencies from around the country. This will ultimately enhance the safety and vigilance of officer’s in order to identify trends and certain risk factors. Once these near miss incidents are analyzed, training as well as policies and/or procedures can be adjusted to maximize officer’s safety and wellness.
