The Duluth City Council voted Monday to amend a zoning ordinance to allow for major and minor auto repair businesses in both the Highway Commercial zoning district along Highway 120 from Highway 316 to Culvert Street and the Buford Highway Overlay District.

Community Development Director Nick Colonna explained the ordinance change would allow for special use permits for auto repair assuming no outdoor storage is present, all repairs are made in a fully enclosed area and proper screening is provided from the right-of-way.

The ordinance amendment is in line with recommendations of the city’s forthcoming Unified Development Code.
