The Duluth City Council heard a review of proposed changes to the Unified Development Code by Bill Ross of Bill Ross and Associates and Paige Hatley of AMEC on May 11.

The largest components of the plan deal with signage and changes to the downtown area and overlay districts. The new UDC proposes to expand boundaries to match the downtown master plan and address design issues beyond the central business district, including commercial and industrial buildings, and changes for multi-family, retail, and Buford Highway corridor standards. Other changes include paring down planned development districts, clarifications on parking lots and screening, as well as procedural changes for the department.

A public hearing will be June 8 and will include adoption of the UDC and the amended zoning map. A second public hearing will be held in July.
