For the sixth year in a row, the Government Finance Officers Association has awarded Duluth the ‘Distinguished Budget Presentation Award’ for its fiscal year 2016 budget document. The budget document is judged by three government accounting professionals in four overall categories, including as a policy document, as a financial plan, as an operations guide, and as a communications device. Overall, the city’s budget document received high marks in all categories.

When a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is granted to an entity, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Preparation is also presented to the individual designated as primarily responsible for having achieved the award. At the city’s most recent council meeting, Duluth Finance Manager Ken Sakmar was recognized for this accomplishment.
