The Duluth Police Department is reminding the public of a phone scam going around again.

The criminals call and pretend to represent a computer software company and request remote access to the person’s computer to “fix” a security issue. Once the scammer accesses the computer to address the issue the victim is instructed to log into their bank account or their bank account is accessed without their knowledge.

Soon after these calls, victims report that funds from their accounts have been withdrawn.

Police are reminding citizens who receive a call asking for access to their computer and/or bank account details to simply hang up. Victims of this scam should contact their bank immediately.
