The Duluth Police Department is helping citizens by providing information on how to set up the Medical ID feature on smart phones. According to police, first responders don’t know the identity of an individual when they encounter them in an emergency situation.

Activating and setting up the Medical ID feature on smart phones could save time when seconds count. The information you list is not invasive but provides basic information that could help responders help you in an emergency situation. Important things to note might be blood type and any existing medical conditions.

• iPhones - Go to Settings, Emergency SOS, Emergency Contact Information and complete Medical ID.

• Android users must visit the play store and download a free app like Medical ID. Android users can include an emergency contact name and telephone number in the notes field.

With both types of mobile devices, emergency contact information can be found when trying to unlock the phone and clicking on Emergency. Users need to be sure to complete the contact information in settings.
