Earlier this year Duluth’s Parks and Recreation department began looking at plans and cost estimates for circulation improvements and parking at Scott Hudgens Park, 4545 River Green Parkway.

Both the Atlanta Fire Soccer Association and Notre Dame Academy have agreements with the city for usage, along with AGCO for tractor demos, local businesses for recreation, and seasonal events. Most of the park’s costs are covered through these agreements but the city budgets approximately $150,000 per year for restroom supplies, limited manpower, and limited maintenance.

The city has been reviewing improvement plans with estimated costs of $550,000-$600,000 to be funded by 2009 SPLOST dollars. Under the most recent plan, no athletic lighting is proposed; portable lights will be used at dusk. The city council directed staff June 22 to proceed with the park design and construction details.
