At the request of the Duluth City Council, the city recently displayed veteran markers an extra five weeks from one week prior to Memorial Day through the July 4th holiday. During this time, staff evaluated and documented the complications of the extended display period including difficultly maintaining rights-of-way as well as wear and tear on the markers.

Duluth staff also met to discuss what changes might be appropriate for the processing of marker requests, and commemoration of Flag Day and the July 4th holiday. Staff presented a summary of the extended display period results, marker request changes and potential strategies for Flag Day and July 4th displays.

Any recommended changes to the marker request forms or display periods will be voted on by the city council.
