A 23-year-old driver was killed Wednesday morning when his SUV ran off the road and slammed into a tree in DeKalb County, police said.

The accident happened just before 7 a.m. at Snapfinger Woods Drive and Shell Bark Road, said Mekka Parish, the police spokeswoman.

The driver, identified as Corderas Smith, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe he might have fallen asleep at the wheel, Parish said.
