A 53-year-old Clayton County man faces a second degree vehicular homicide charge after a metal pole allegedly hanging off his truck struck and killed a woman.
Leonard Kleckley, of Riverdale, was driving a Ford F-350 truck southbound on Tara Boulevard when the metal struck a woman walking southbound along the road Monday morning, police said.
Cynthia Geraldine Cameron, 57, was struck in the back of the neck by the metal and transported to Southern Regional Medical Center, where she died. Cameron was not in the roadway when she was struck, police said.
Kleckley, an employee for a fencing company, was arrested early Wednesday and made his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon. He was denied bond because his arrest violated his probation following a drug conviction in 2000.
Kleckley has served two previous sentences in state prison, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. He was released in December 2004 and was to remain on probation until November 2014, records show.
Denton Messick, who runs the fencing company where Kleckley works, told Channel 2 Action News that the woman's death was a tragic accident. Messick called Kleckley one of his best employees.
