Downtown trees get holiday pruning

Trees along Decatur’s downtown streets will get their annual maintenance — including pruning, fertilization and pest control — during the holidays. This covers about 260 trees, mostly Willow Oaks, Red Maples, Princeton Elms, Chinese Elms and American Elms, the first of which were planted in 1994 during the city’s initial streetscape program. The average lifespan for these is about 50 to 70 years. Total cost for the maintenance is $18,200.
