The man who was shot by a Douglasville police officer at a Motel 6 parking lot has died, a spokesman for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Sunday.

The man was identified as Dennis Hamby, 50.

Hamby was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital after being shot in the parking lot of the Lithia Springs Motel 6.

It is unclear what led to the shooting.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

An unmarked police car and a Ford Mustang were towed from the parking lot early Sunday, WAGA Fox 5 has reported.

Police told Fox 5 that the officer had forced the man to crash his car.

The GBI does not release the names of officers who are involved in shootings.
