A Doraville man drowned Monday while swimming at Lake Lanier, authorities said.

Hall County sheriff’s Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said Kyle Miller, 25, was swimming with friends at Van Pugh Park when he attempted to swim to a nearby island.

“He apparently became fatigued, went under the water, and did not resurface,” Wilbanks said in an e-mail. “He was not immediately noted as missing, resulting in a delay of approximately one hour before emergency services were called to the scene.”

Wilbanks said that shortly after being notified, rescue divers from Hall County Fire Services recovered Miller’s body about 20 yards from the shoreline, in 15 feet of water.
