Several dogs found abandoned are now at the Clayton County animal shelter. But officers have not yet determined who dumped the dogs.

A passerby called police after spotting the dogs and puppies on Williamson Road, near Jonesboro, on Saturday, Sgt. Otis Willis with Clayton County police told the AJC. Robert Williams told Channel 2 Action News he called officers and then waited with the animals.

"I'm glad nobody hit them," Williams said.

The county shelter is near capacity, meaning the dogs could be put down if not adopted soon.

"Who left these dogs? And why did they leave them there?" Willis said.

Anyone with information about the animals is asked to contact Clayton County police.
