UPDATE: Hold your horses, folks — it doesn't look like Cook Out's new location in Snellville will be opening today (Friday) after all.

The city of Snellville has backpedaled a bit after Thursday's social media posts saying the much-awaited eatery would open Friday. Officials posted this message on Facebook around 1 p.m. Friday:

UPDATE: We just drove by Cook Out and an employee in the store said they will open "Hopefully tomorrow." They are conducting interviews starting at 2:30 p.m. however.

The post obviously suggests Cook Out could still open this weekend, but who knows at this point.

ORIGINAL STORY: Gwinnett County's very first Cook Out restaurant opens today — at least according to the city of Snellville.

The long-awaited eatery at 2019 Scenic Highway has been under construction since the summer. Snellville officials broke the news about the opening on the city's Facebook page on Thursday.

Cook Out at Scenic Highway and Dogwood Road opens tomorrow folks.

Attempts to confirm with Cook Out itself were not immediately successful Friday morning. Exact hours for the restaurant's presumed opening were not clear.

Cook Out is a North Carolina-based chain that offers burgers, more than 40 milkshake flavors and gut-busting sides like hushpuppies, chicken nuggets and quesadillas.

The new Snellville location is just one of several new restaurants that have recently opened or are under construction in the area.

A Zaxby's opened Monday in the nearby Park Place shopping center, right next to a Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers that opened earlier this year. A new Cracker Barrel is also planned for that shopping center.

Culver's — of "ButterBurger" and custard fame — is under construction at Scenic Highway and Scenic Pines Drive.

Across the highway from there, a Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q opened recently, and Ovation, a dine-in movie theater concept from Carmike Cinemas, is also under construction.

A Taco Bell is under construction next to Cook Out. The city of Snellville wrote on Facebook Thursday that there was "no firm date yet" for its opening.
