A DeKalb police sergeant is being investigated to determine if he tried to convince a witness not to report a rape, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Sgt. Eric Adkison has been confined to desk duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

Questions of Adkison’s involvement arose as police investigated an alleged rape Dec. 16, 2011 at a home in the 5700 block of Shadow Creek Drive in Lithonia. The incident was not reported to police until Feb. 8.

“As a part if this investigation, we are trying to determine if one of our officers influenced a witness or obstructed justice in this case,” police spokeswoman Mekka Parish told Channel 2. “Sgt. Eric Adkison is currently on restrictive duty pending the outcome of this investigation."

The victim filed a restraining order against her alleged attacker a day before she reported the rape, Channel 2 is reporting.

Efforts to reach Adkison on Wednesday were unsuccessful.

No one has been charged in connection with the rape, so a suspect is not being identified.
