Decatur’s aging apartments at 1111 Oakview Road, originally built in 1961 and turned into affordable housing units in 1982, is next on the Decatur Housing Authority’s list for re-development.

DHA Executive Director Douglas Faust recently unveiled the new Oakview plans before city commissioners, though construction likely won’t start until 2017.

Oakview currently has 24 units, but the new design allows for 34 units with a town homes-style appearance: 10 two-bedroom units at 1,000 square feet and 24 one-bedrooms at 700 square feet along with a 2,000-square-foot community space.

The apartments, Faust said, are targeted for the disabled and elderly.

Current Oakview residents will move into the first phase of Trinity Walk (formerly Gateway Manor Apartments) in May, with Oakview’s demolition following shortly thereafter.
