During a packed council meeting, a developer withdrew plans to build a massive and ambitious project in the city of Tucker.

Stephen Macauley pulled his proposals for the corner of Hugh Howell Road and Mountain Industrial Boulevard after a lengthy discussion Monday, the city said.

In various forms, the plans to redevelop the old Sears distribution center property called for a movie studio, hotel, hundreds of apartments and senior-living units, an elementary school, an amphitheater and more.

Nexus Tucker, as it was called before being dubbed The Rise, could’ve rivaled the number of residents in DeKalb County’s smallest city. Pine Lake has about 760 residents.

The council granted the request to withdraw the plans, which means the developer could bring them back in the spring.
