Avondale Estates received a $62,500 grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission earlier this year to fund a “demonstration project.” That project will take place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of U.S. 278 and Clarendon Avenue.

Using chalk, flags and cones, the demonstration will give a physical approximation of what a roundabout would look like at that intersection, along with how U.S. 278 will appear when slimmed down from four lanes to two.

The redesign of U.S. 278 from Ashton Place to Sams Crossing is a priority in the city’s downtown master plan.
