DeKalb County residents can learned about proposed water and sewer rate hikes Monday.

Commissioner Lee May will host a community meeting 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Lou Walker Senior Center on Panola Road in Lithonia. May and other county officials will outline the county’s proposed $1.5 billion project to upgrade its water and sewer system.

DeKalb plans to use bonds to pay for the upgrades. Water bills are expected to increase 110 percent from 2009-2014. The average family will see bimonthly bills go from $165 to $347 by 2014.
