Lillie Cox, the one-time front-runner to lead DeKalb Schools, was hired Monday as superintendent of Alamance-Burlington Schools, a North Carolina district where she used to work. Cox dropped out of contention for the DeKalb job after contract negotiations stalled and details about the potential agreement were made public. The Alamance-Burlington Board of Education said they voted unanimously to hire Cox to run the 23,000-student district. Her new job begins July 1.
