DeKalb County Solicitor-General Robert James will run for District Attorney Gwen Keyes Fleming’s vacant seat.

James, who was elected solicitor-general in 2007, announced his candidacy to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Fleming submitted her resignation to become a regional administrator with the federal Environmental Protection Agency. Her last day is Friday.

Fleming has appointed Chief Assistant District Attorney Javoyne Hicks White to serve as acting district attorney until Gov. Sonny Perdue appoints an acting district attorney or until the special election is set.
