DeKalb County police confronted three burglars inside a home Wednesday afternoon and shot one of them, officials said.

The wounded suspect, who has not been identified, is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, DeKalb police Maj. James Conroy said.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. when officers responded to a burglary call at a home in the 3200 block of Kingswood Place in the Waldrop Station subdivision, police said.

The officers encountered three alleged intruders -- a man and two juveniles -- inside the residence. One of them made a gesture that an officer believed was threatening, and the officer fired, striking the suspect, police said.

The other suspects fled on foot but were arrested nearby by other responding officers.

The suspects face charges of burglary, possession of tools for committing a crime and obstruction.

The officer in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation into the shooting, Conroy said.
