The DeKalb County branch of the NAACP is looking for high school students to compete in its annual talent showcase called ACT-SO. An acronym for Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, ACT-SO is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit stimulate and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students, according to a news release.

ACT-SO includes 33 competitions in STEM, humanities, business and performing and visual and culinary arts. Students receive mentoring to prepare for the annual competition where they compete for medals and cash prizes.

An informational session is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 23 at Voices of Faith Church, 2500 Rockbridge Road, SW in Stone Mountain.
