The DeKalb County branch of the NAACP is hosting its annual Freedom Fund awards and banquet next month in Decatur.

Tickets are $75 and include a keynote speech by Michael Thurmond, the former state Labor Commissioner and first African-American elected to the General Assembly in Clarke County since Reconstruction.

The event begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Courtyard by Marriott Decatur, 130 Clairemont Ave., Decatur.
