DeKalb Medical honored for birthing center

DeKalb Medical has been recognized internationally for its birthing center.

The International Board of Lactation and Consultant Examiners and the International Lactation Consultant Association awarded the DeKalb hospital the “Care Award for Hospitals and Birthing Facilities,” the hospital announced Tuesday.

DeKalb Medical is one of five hospitals in Georgia to be recognized for supporting women who choose to breastfeed, the hospital said. The international board cited the hospital's for having a professional lactation consultant on staff and operating the program at least five days a week.
