He wouldn’t have missed work or been hard to reach.

Co-workers and friends got worried Tuesday when Earl English, 28, did both. They summoned DeKalb County police to his home on Northstrand Drive off Snapfinger Road around 5:30 p.m.

Police found English with a brown plastic bag around his head, slumped against the inside of his front door, a police report said. He had been shot.

The county medical examiner’s office said Thursday the case is considered a homicide.

DeKalb police haven’t revealed if they have suspects.

The police report doesn’t explain why someone would hurt English. But it says co-workers and friends were extremely concerned for him.

"Mr. English failed to come to work this morning and that is extremely odd, due to the fact that he has never missed a day of work,” the police report said, not specifying what his job was. He also couldn’t be reached by phone, though he was “on social media all day.”

English’s best friend told officers he hadn’t heard from him since the night before. English was said to have worked out at an LA Fitness in Midtown Atlanta with another friend that night.

In the home, police found some of the cupboards in the kitchen open, with things scattered through multiple rooms.

A TV was still playing.

English’s two cars, a 2011 Dodge Charger and a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro, remained in the driveway.
