The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department has started a flag football league for metro law enforcement agencies.

The idea came after a game two years ago between the sheriff’s office and DeKalb Police, to raise public awareness about the dangers of celebratory gunfire.

Now, eight teams from DeKalb, Gwinnett, Henry, Fulton counties and the city of Atlanta play games every Sunday at Hallford Memorial Stadium in Clarkston.

Several games are held weekly, with initial kickoff at 1 p.m. each Saturday through June 9. Cost is $5 for adults and children over 10.

Proceeds benefit the Gold Shield Foundation, which assists families of police and firefighters killed or injured in the line of duty.
