Household hazardous waste – the batteries, paint and lawn chemicals many homeowners use – can be disposed safely at an event in DeKalb County next month.

Examples of other waste to be accepted are: aerosols, cleaners, flammables, fluorescent lights, mercury and photo and swimming pool chemicals.

Items not accepted include bio-hazards, medical and agricultural waste, pharmaceuticals and non-hazardous waste.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 19 at the central transfer station, 3720 Leroy Scott Dr., near Decatur.
