With May set aside to honor fallen law enforcement across the country, DeKalb County is planning a tribute event for Wednesday.

The DeKalb County Police Department is recognizing its officers during its annual Fallen Officers Memorial Service at 10 a.m. The event is at DeKalb Historic Center (the former courthouse, located at 101 East Court Square, Decatur.

DeKalb will also recognize fallen officers from Clarkston, Decatur, Doraville, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, DeKalb County Marshall’s Office, MARTA, Pine Lake and Stone Mountain.

The memorial service brings together family, police, elected officials, community groups and friends to commemorate the lives lost.

The service ends with a 21-gun salute and helicopter flyover.

DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond and police Chief James W. Conroy are expected to attend.
