DeKalb’s first charter school cluster vote in August

Proponents of creating a Druid Hills Charter Cluster in north central DeKalb County will hold a vote Aug. 13 on whether to proceed in creating a school charter that would allow some greater autonomy from the district school board.

Administrators, teachers and parents or guardians of children eligible to attend Druid Hills High School and any of the six schools in its feeder pattern — Druid Hills Middle and Avondale, Briar Vista, Fernbank, Laurel Ridge and McLendon elementary schools — in the 2014-2015 school year can vote.

The vote is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the high school gym, 1798 Haygood Dr NE, Atlanta. Bring photo identification and, for parents, the child's birth certificate, passport or report card and, for those whose children are not yet attending district schools, proof of residence, including a recent utility bill, mortgage statement, lease agreement or residency affidavit. Information available at school offices and www.druidhillschartercluster.org.
