DeKalb County firefighters were called in to douse a woods fire yards from the Redan Road bridge over I-285 during Friday's morning commute, the second in two days.

DeKalb Fire Rescue Capt. Stevy Duke pulls a section of hose down a hill. Acting Battalion Chief Demond Simpson said crews had to lay about a thousand feet of fire hose to douse the fire, which burned about a quarter-acre of woods. "With it being so dry, we really want to get it soaked down really good so that we won't have to come back out here later today," Simpson said.

DeKalb firefighter Beau Lance works with others to put out the flames. Friday morning's fire was the second in two days in the same wooded area, DeKalb Fire Capt. Stevy Duke said.

Brush and wood burn. The National Weather Service has posted a red flag warning for much of Georgia, including all of metro Atlanta, effective from 1-7 p.m. Friday. Forecasters warned that dry conditions and low humidity will create dangerous fire weather conditions.

Homeless people had structures near where the fire was. "Unfortunately, we have a lot of homeless people in the area," acting battalion chief Demond Simpson said. "With the weather starting to get cold, they're starting to start warming fires, and with it being so dry, they can easily spread into the woodline."
