Smoke Rise Elementary in DeKalb County was evacuated Monday due to a "light haze of smoke" inside the school, according to the fire department.
"As a precaution, they wanted to evacuate everybody,” Capt. Eric Jackson, spokesman for DeKalb fire, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The Tucker school was having after-school activities at the time. About 20 students were evacuated to the gym to continue normal activities, the school district said.
The source of the smoke was a fan motor in a girls' restroom, according to a statement from the district.
"Operations and schedules at the school will return to normal tomorrow, Nov. 29," the statement said. "At no time during this incident was any student or employee at risk or harmed. The health and safety of all our students and staff are our most important priorities.”
